Seven day detox. By the time that this blog is published, I will be on day three of my seven day detox. This detox was recommended by my integrative medicine dr, to start before I do a vigorous candida cleanse for the next basically three months.
The Core Restore. The 7 day detox. My friend and my nemesis over the next few days. For those of you that have done a cleanse or completed the Daniel Fast, then you know that it has its ups and downs.
What does the Core Restore entail?
It has a lovely powder shake that you can mix with water or unsweetened almond or coconut milk. You drink this all 7 days, morning and night. Then it has 2 different kind of pills, one that you start from day one, and one that you do not start until day 3. Again, you take them morning and night. The powder has a slight cherry flavor and I have only mixed it with water. I love real cherries, but not a huge fan of cherry flavors, even if it is all natural.
Then..there are the minor details and the eating plan. For the first two days you are supposed to fast, minus the pills and the shake that are in the core restore. Then the meal plan – limits you from sugar, processed foods, alcohol, soy, some veggies, gluten, corn and more. It definitely does not allow any of the main allergies that most people have issues with.
As this is day 3..I made it and survived my first two days. I didn’t mind the taste of the shake and because it has psyllium husk, rice protein and some fruits and veggies, it is actually filling. I also thought about those that do not have any choice about eating and go hungry throughout the day with no idea where there next meal will come from. Talk about having a sense of gratitude when you think about it that way. My fast from food was only 2 days. I actually had a ton of energy on the first day as well. The book that comes with the detox recommends taking it easy, but I did not entirely listen. I came home from work and did a ton of household chores and I drank a ton of water throughout the day. The first night, I did make the mistake of taking my iron supplement (trying up increase my overall ferritin levels) which was not the smartest thing as I had not had any solid food. I slept ok that night.
The second day of the detox, I woke up and ached, had a headache and regretted taking that iron supplement. About noon, when I actually did come around and started feeling better and even went to pilates that night, but when I came home, I did take it easy. Again, I drank a ton of water even when I did not necessarily want to and I slept great that night.
Which brings us to day 3. I feel fantastic. I woke up with a ton of energy. My complexion has seen vast remarkable changes in the first two days and my dark circles under my eyes has decreased. I did make a smoothie for breakfast – I chose to leave the shake part out and just drink that with water. I also had an avocado and stir fry today. All is all it has been a good day.
I will say, I am impressed so far with this detox. And I think it is a good first step to having to do candida cleanse. Surprising my cravings for that afternoon sugar fix at work have ceased and I am very happy about this. I do not eat sugar or snacks like that when I am not at work and really do not like the fact that I reach for it at work. Even if it is gluten free and vegan, it doesn’t mean it is good for you – sugar is sugar.
Below is my morning smoothie:
1 frozen banana
1 cup of frozen strawberries
1/2 cup frozen blueberries
1/2 cup of frozen kale pieces
12 oz of unsweetened almond milk
1 tablespoon of date paste
Place in a high speed blender, mix until smooth, and enjoy 🙂
I’ll keep you guys posted on the outcome. I have high hopes and look forward to the remaining 4 days. I feel that I am on the final stretch of my journey – even if in a way, it just began since I have to make complete the cleanse over the next 3 months.
Until next time,
may blessings abound,
P.S:…this is important.
